Richard Shafer – CW4, AV (Ret)
Mr. Shafer is an accomplished pilot with over 35 years of military and civilian flying experience. He has acquired 11,500 total hours of rotary and fixed wing flight time; 9,500 hours as a Pilot-in-Command. In addition, he has invested 2,100 flight hours instructing others to fly multi-engine airplanes and helicopters.
During his 22 years with the U.S. Army and National Guard, Mr. Shafer served in many different positions that included Maintenance Test Pilot, Maintenance Officer, Operations Officer and Standardization Instructor Pilot in both rotor Wing and fixed wing aircraft. He was deployed to Saudi Arabia in 1990 in support of Operation Desert Shield, Desert Storm and Desert Calm. Mr. Shafer’s awards include the Bronze Star, Air Medal and Meritorious Service Medal.
Military and Civilian Experience:
- Pilot/Nevada Pacific Consulting: Mr. Shafer is currently employed as a corporate pilot and Director of Safety.
- Standardization Instructor Pilot/Nevada Army National Guard: Trained and evaluated instructor pilots and flight crews flying the King Air BE-200 airplane.
- Instructor Pilot/U.S. Army and California National Guard: Responsible for training and evaluating all AH-1 Cobra pilots in the Battalion. Training included tactical operation, night vision goggles and instrument flight.

Mr. Shafer graduated from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aviation Technology. He currently holds an Airline Transport Pilot license with 8 different Type ratings and a Helicopter/Rotorcraft Commercial instrument license.
