Mr. Young has over 48 years of flight experience logging more than 28,000 hours in the air. He has over 25,000 hours of rotary wing flight hours and over 3,000 hours of airplane, single engine, land time; 800 hours acquired flying missions in the Vietnam War, where he served his country flying as an OH-6A Cayuse scout pilot with B Troop 7/1st Air Cavalry and A Troop 2/17th Air Cavalry (1968–1969). He served in the U.S. Army from 1967–1972.

Mr. Young’s exemplary military recognitions include two Distinguished Flying Crosses, two Bronze Stars, two Purple Hearts, 26 Combat Air Medals, the Army Commendation Medal & Good Conduct Medal. He separated from the Army in 1972 with the rank of Captain.

He flew commercial civilian helicopter logging and then contract work until 1988 when he founded A&P Helicopters, Inc. in Yuba City, California. He owned his business for 18 years flying a Hughes 500D. During his flying career Fred has helped establish long line and external operations for California Department of Justice, PG&E and the US Forest Service.

Fred retired in 2006 and continues to fly his Bonanza D35, take motorcycle road trips, and work very closely with numerous Veteran Organizations volunteering his time and effort. He is Commander of Yuba-Sutter Sheriff’s Aero Squadron and National Director for Blackhawks 7/1st Air Cav.
